The lodge offers a variety of luxuries allowing you to take the necessary time to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The Okavango Panhandle: Situated in the northwestern area of the Okavango Delta, the Panhandle is a stretch of the Okavango River that follows a more-or-less straight course for approximately 70 kilometres before entering the wetlands. This deep channel serves as the main water source feeding the delta and offers excellent tiger and bream fishing, while the surrounding woodlands and the river’s shallow waters teem with a myriad of birds. The Okavango Panhandle is dotted with several villages and serves as a gateway to the scenic Tsodilo Hills, some 40 kilometres west, with their various tribal cave paintings, some dating back as far as 20 000 years. Visitors can enjoy excellent fishing, first-class birding, boating on the Okavango River and game viewing in the Mahangu National Park.

Overnight: Nxamaseri Island Lodge Nxamaseri Island Lodge is an exclusive lodge, set on an island in the panhandle of the Okavango Delta, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas in the world. Xugana Island Lodge, the Okavango Delta

Enjoy a final morning activity with Nxamaseri Island Lodge before your light aircraft transfer to Xugana Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta. You will spend the next three nights at Xugana Island enjoying a variery of delta based activities.

The Okavango Delta: Situated in the northwestern corner of Botswana, the Okavango Delta is a World Heritage Site as it is the largest inland delta in the world. The magnificent Okavango River sprawls out over the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert forming this flourishing waterlogged oasis featuring countless meandering waterways and crystal clear lagoons studded with water lilies, as well as fertile floodplains and reeded islands inhabited with abundant wildlife. The Okavango Delta stretches over an impressive 15000 square kilometres. Visitors can enjoy a number of wonderful activities such as game viewing, fishing, bird watching or taking an authentic guided Mokoro excursion through this wetland paradise in a traditional dugout canoe. Commonly spotted animals include: lion, rhino, leopard, giraffe, hippos, elephants, crocodiles and countless species of bird.

Overnight: Xugana Island Lodge Xugana Lagoon is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta. Xugana Island Lodge, situated on a wooded island abutting the lagoon, takes full advantage of this magnificent site. The thatched common area, comprising cocktail bar, lounge and curio shop, is still the original building put up in 1974, when Xugana became only the second tourist lodge ever built in the Okavango Delta. Mokoro trips in eco-friendly dugout canoes built to the traditional design, boat safaris to lagoons and islands and wilderness walks give guests the chance to see the Delta denizens such as sitatunga and lechwe antelope, crocodile and hippo, as well as the other big game that frequents the islands and riverine fringes. Bird-watching opportunities are outstanding, and the bream and tiger fishing can be excellent at certain times of the year. The peaceful boat ride back across Xugana Lagoon during the spectacular African sunset provides a lifelong memory. All activities are conducted by our experienced naturalist guides, who, as well as ensuring that guests come to no harm, are keen to impart their vast knowledge and love of this unique area.

    DAY 7-10:
    Camp Moremi, Moremi Game Reserve

A memorable boat-based transfer will take guests from the private concession of the Okavango Delta to the renowned Moremi Game Reserve for three nights of exceptional game viewing. The Moremi Game Reserve is one of Botswana‘s primary wildlife destinations, making it the perfect end to an exciting Botswana safari. You will spend three nights at Camp Moremi, located within the Xakanaxa region of the Moremi Game Reserve.

The Moremi Game Reserve: Situated in the east of the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve ranks as one of the most beautiful reserves in Africa. It covers more than 4871 square kilometres of pristine wilderness, and the varied terrain includes savannah, winding waterways, and dense forest. This diverse ecosystem supports an incredibly wide spectrum of wildlife, ranging from large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra, to the rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope, lion, cheetah and packs of wild dog in the open grasslands. The birdlife is prolific and includes most of the 550 bird species recorded on Botswana’s national bird list. A range of luxury lodges in the reserve offers visitors the perfect base to experience this corner of paradise.

    Botswana FAQs

    Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers for planning a Botswana Safari, including best places, seasons, wildlife, activities, and travel style.

The best time to visit Botswana is usually from May to October, during the dry season. Wildlife is easier to see because animals gather around rivers, lagoons, floodplains, and remaining water sources. This is a strong period for Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, and the Okavango Delta.

The green season, from November to April, brings rain, fresh grass, newborn animals, and excellent birdwatching. This season is also beautiful for photography, with greener landscapes and dramatic skies.

The Okavango Delta is famous because it is one of the world’s largest inland deltas. Its water spreads across the Kalahari Desert instead of flowing into the sea, creating channels, lagoons, islands, and floodplains.

Travellers can explore the delta by mokoro, boat, walking safari, and game drive, depending on the camp and area. Wildlife may include elephants, hippos, crocodiles, red lechwe, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and many bird species.

Yes, Chobe National Park is one of the best places in Botswana for first-time safari travellers. It is easier to access than many remote safari areas and offers excellent wildlife sightings, especially along the Chobe River.

The park is famous for large elephant herds, but travellers may also see buffalo, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, and many birds. Boat cruises and game drives make the safari more varied.

Moremi Game Reserve is special because it combines dry land, floodplains, lagoons, grasslands, and woodland within the greater Okavango Delta region. This variety creates excellent wildlife viewing in a beautiful natural setting.

Travellers may see lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and rich birdlife. Moremi is also one of the more accessible parts of the delta, making it popular for both guided and self-drive safaris.

At the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, travellers can enjoy desert-style experiences that feel very different from a classic safari. Activities may include quad biking, guided walks, horseback riding, meerkat visits, stargazing, and seasonal wildlife viewing.

During the rainy season, the pans can attract zebras, wildebeest, flamingos, and other animals. In the dry season, the wide white landscape feels open, quiet, and almost unreal, making it perfect for photography and night-sky viewing.

Yes, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is worth visiting for travellers who enjoy remote landscapes and quieter safari routes. It is one of Africa’s largest protected areas, with open grasslands, fossil river valleys, salt pans, and desert-adapted wildlife.

Wildlife sightings may include black-maned lions, cheetahs, brown hyenas, oryx, springbok, giraffes, and other desert species. It is best for travellers with more time, patience, and interest in raw wilderness.

A Botswana Safari can offer excellent wildlife sightings across different areas. Travellers may see elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, wild dogs, hyenas, and many bird species.

Chobe is known for elephants, the Okavango Delta is excellent for wetland wildlife, and Moremi is strong for predators and varied habitats. Sightings depend on the season, location, water levels, and safari style.

A mokoro safari is a traditional canoe experience, mainly enjoyed in the Okavango Delta. A guide poles the mokoro through shallow channels, allowing travellers to move quietly through reeds, water lilies, and open waterways.

This safari style is peaceful and close to nature. Travellers may see birds, reed frogs, dragonflies, antelopes, elephants near the water, and other wetland wildlife from a low and calm viewpoint.

Yes, Botswana is one of Africa’s top luxury safari destinations. Many lodges and camps are located in remote private concessions, where visitor numbers are limited and the safari experience feels more personal.

Luxury Botswana Safari Packages may include fly-in transfers, private camps, guided game drives, mokoro rides, boat safaris, walking safaris, fine dining, and beautiful wilderness settings. The focus is comfort, privacy, conservation, and strong guiding.

Botswana can be suitable for families, especially those with older children who enjoy wildlife and outdoor experiences. Areas like Chobe and some Okavango Delta lodges can work well because they offer good facilities and exciting activities.

However, some remote camps may have age restrictions for walking safaris, mokoro rides, or shared game drives. Families should choose lodges carefully based on child policies, travel distances, room setup, malaria advice, and activity options.
